Introduction
Tiaodi Pond Sluice Gate, located in Tiaodi Village, Zhutian Township, Pingtung, was completed in 1929 (the 4th year of the Showa era). Once the prosperous "Dada Port," it served as a vital hub for grain transshipment, and its hydraulic infrastructure became the cornerstone of the settlement's development.
Spanning the Longjing Creek, the facility was primarily designed to intercept water for the irrigation of vast farmlands, serving as an essential control system for agricultural production at the time. The resulting water level fluctuations, however, hindered the convenience of traditional bamboo raft transportation, gradually causing the area’s commercial role to recede in favor of irrigation.
Today, the area surrounding the sluice gate still preserves the "Liangpi Bogong" (shrine for the Earth God of the Grain Pond) and the "Jingzi Pavilion" (Pavilion for Burning Written Characters), which symbolizes the respect for education. As a significant heritage site of hydraulic engineering, it stands as a testament to the village's transformation from a bustling trade port to an agricultural landscape.
