The organizational structure of Taiwan’s Irrigation industry

• On Jan 23, 1948, the "Regulations for the Establishment of Irrigation Committees in Regions of Taiwan Province" were promulgated. Irrigation Cooperatives previously established during the period of Japanese rule were renamed Irrigation Committees.
• In 1950, the Pingtung Irrigation Committee was established separately from Kaohsiung Irrigation Committee.
• In 1956, the Pingtung Irrigation Association of Taiwan Province was reorganized and established as a public legal entity.
• On October 1, 2020, it was restructured into the Pingtung Management Office, Irrigation Agency, Council of Agriculture, Executive Yuan, and became a public organization.
• On August 1, 2023, it was restructured into the Pingtung Management Office, Irrigation Agency, Ministry of Agriculture.

It is hoped that after transforming the irrigation industry from a public legal entity into a public agency, government budgets can be better used to accelerate irrigation construction, strengthen services for farmers, increase agricultural output value and ensure food security.
