Introduction
Located in Baocuo Village, Wandan Township, Pingtung County, the Wandan No. 2 Pumping Station sits along the historic Wandan irrigation system. Originally constructed in 1928, the Wandan irrigation serves as a vital lifeline supporting local agricultural development. Due to the uneven terrain along the canal’s main line, the No. 2 Pumping Station plays a crucial regulatory role by extracting water from lower elevations and pumping it back to higher ground. From there, the water flows by gravity to vast stretches of farmland, achieving an "upward" irrigation supply against the natural slope.
This pumping station is not only a cornerstone for ensuring a stable irrigation supply but also a key pillar sustaining Wandan's reputation as the "Home of Red Beans and Rice." In response to the challenges of climate change in recent years, drought-relief wells have been added to the station to ensure a steady water supply during dry periods. As an indispensable part of Wandan’s agriculture, the Wandan No. 2 Pumping Station continues to safeguard the local farming environment, carrying forward the rich cultivation legacy of the Pingtung Plain.
